Random Thought

Religion has popped in out of my head a lot lately- mainly because I’ve started to encounter more and more non-theists online these days [yay!]. I continue to venture to the FSTDT and I can’t help but be exposed to ‘religion’ daily via status updates by family and friends that some times mentions a deity or prayer request [I should offer to rub a rabbits foot for them] from my theist acquaintances.

It got me thinking [again]. Even if a being named Jesus existed- and he may have, with superstitious times and wacky understanding of the world that people held in their minds, he very well could have walked the Earth. He could have wound up producing offspring, had a horde of relatives- who knows. Anyway, it still doesn’t mean that there is a god. It merely means that people over exaggerated a decent example for the people of that time to follow and praised him into a celestial status thinking he could only have been spawned from the hands of ‘god’ himself. <-like I was.

I think the more I despise evangelical xtians and I’d like them to shut the hell up and go away, the only thing I can be uncertain about is the existence of Jesus… which I don’t really care one way or the other if the person really lived. There are many great teachers in this world from the past that we’ve heard of- and I wouldn’t ‘follow’ or worship any of them. I think Jesus [Yeshua or whatever] falls into that bucket.

The notion of ‘god’ is still really silly to me. It’s not needed and it’s a primitive response to explaining the unknown. If you took ‘god’ out of the bible and just left the teachings of the people for whatever purpose- philosophical etc., then that would be much more sane than the freaky directions that theists have run with the Middle Eastern folklore.

So that’s my random thought for the day. No, it’s not very entertaining, but you can’t really see me juggling drunk opossums over here while I type.
