Originally when I began to watch this show starting with the premiere and although I found it likable, I couldn’t help but compare the majority of S1 &2 episodes with those of ‘Friends’. The dynamics, the plots, so much of it was similar (except for the ‘How I Met Your Mother’ part).
For those unfamiliar with the show, it’s about a father in the future telling his children a very long long lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng story of how he met their mother. So far we’ve no idea who she is but throughout the show they give us little hints and after tonights episode I want to scream “JUST INTRODUCE HER ALREADY!” I think they can make the show last a very long time WITH the mother on there- courtship is quite amusing.
So do we meet her? Alas not tonight. The father, Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor), comes close by dating a woman, Cindy, who is revealed to be the mysterious ‘mothers’ roommate played by a very cute Rachel Bilson who has a roommate complex. The unknown mother/roommate is apparently a perfect match for Ted based on the pieces he was drawn to around the apartment that seemed to fuel Cindy’s jealousy.
Meanwhile, the new hot female bartender has Lily (Alyson Hannigan) accusing Marshall (Jason Segel) of crushing on her when in fact it seems to be someone else drooling over the long legged blonde Karina (played by Stacy Keibler).
The episode seems to center around the bartender as Robin (Cobie Smulders) tries to prove it’s the job not the woman that has all the men wagging their tongues. Additionally we have Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) possibly giving up his beloved suits because Karina seems to have an issue with the Italian clothed pieces of bliss due to bad past experiences with men donning the attire.
This of course leads to a phenomenal ending where Neil Patrick Harris once more shows off his vocal and dancing skills like he did in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog by shouting to the world his love of the divine suit. The very last part was eerily a lot like the ending of “They Got the Mustard Out” from Joss Whedon’s (who was the creator of Dr. Horrible) ‘BTVS the Musical’. Hmmm.
HIMYM… bravo.
