I think I accidentally blinked because I had completely missed this. The Birthers… people who are bent on proving and freaking out that Obama is not a US citizen.

Pretty much most of our presidents in my life time have not been the greatest. They’ve been an outright embarrassment- but it’s not like you can pick your… oh wait. I guess we can. It’s call an election. Go back in time as much as you want to the perfect founding fathers who were painted as saints in most peoples minds due to the lack of media coverage and decent locks on the closets. The dreams that were written up for a completely different world for a political system that was for a much different time.
I had my initial dislike for Bush due to his inability to separate church and state and his religious agenda that at time pissed me off to no end… programs for my child being slashed left and right leaving us pretty much in a dust bowl -and I could go on and on but I won’t.
This is our country and the people had spoken. What I felt was unfair about the Bush admin is that the people had spoken, and it wasn’t for W. The second term I just didn’t care any more.
I’m sick of the haters who aren’t doing anything to help except bore me to tears with their moronic Chihuahua-esque yapping. It’s like bitching about the frigid air without being willing to put on a sweater, turn up the thermostat or see what you can do heat up the room. I’m sure that analogy sucks but it’s 10 in the morning and I have not had any coffee.
**fixing the coffee issue**
I have my coffee and it’s cooling. I always dread election time. Actually this time it’s been a little different. Rational people turning into snarling creatures freaking out about guns, abortions etc. Irrational fears. Posting garbage trying to rile people up of things that actually happened years ago in the Bush admin and blaming our 6 month president for it.
I for one feel the right to bear arms for another world and another time. I don’t mind weapons being used on animals for the purpose of food. I’m conflicted about allowing guns in city limits for protection. I get the shoot to maim if there’s an intruder… but I for one have a dagger by my bed. I lived with someone many many many years ago who insisted on keeping a gun under the mattress and it freaked me out every time I made the bed. I *hated* it.
I think a lot has to do with my early years. So many issues with guns. 1. My dad decided to join Amway and took us kids into the middle of the woods in Alaska where we were forced to shoot the hell out of our television set (unsure why because we weren’t without a tv very long) but apparently the ‘boob tube’ an evil distraction.
2. My Auntie Alice (I had a strong connection with her, she lived in Sonoma, funny and crazy older woman- My grandma Masuoka’s sister). I would spend the time during the summers with her when we’d visit the lower 48. At night we’d sit under the stars and talk about the world and life… She pointed to the North star and got all teary eyed “When I see that, I think of you up in Alaska and I miss you.” We decided that every time we saw the star, we’d say “I love you” and the other person would hear it and it wouldn’t feel so lonely out there. Shortly after my dad moved us to Washington and I got to visit her one more time- I got the news that after her brother died, there was a fight over the vineyard and she wound up getting shot and killed by her other brother, my great uncle. His son was a sherrif and had to arrest his own father…
3. As a teenager I had a gun held to my temple very briefly because I was confused about being a narc by someone who was high on cocaine.
My view on Pro-Life… I’m pro-choice. Obviously I’ve never had an abortion and I never will. I would prefer people put birth control in the water… or give a girl a birth control shot from the time she hits puberty until she leaves home (and continue educating kids on sex and STD’s). Yes, babies are a miracle blah blah blah- and then they become a bane and cyst upon society and on death row courtesy of the same people who fought to abolish abortion. AND… then they also gripe about the kids who they wanted to kill abortion doctors for- how their taxes are raising those kids because the parent won’t get a job. (yes those are extremes but subtle examples are overlooked)
Anyway- It’s tiresome.

I was googling for the “Born Identity” because I wondered if there mightn’t be a mathematical relationship called that, named after the physicist Max Born. (There isn’t.) But in doing so, I accidentally hit upon a story that you may or may not appreciate: http://www.y-zine.com/born.htm. And you wonder why atheists aren’t popular!
lol Thanks. I think it brings up a good point I keep forgetting while I’m busy on my soap box trying not to get dizzy and fall (afraid of heights). Whether or not “Jesus” existed has never really been my frustration with Christians and others of a religious base. WHY worship?!?! It’s primitive and psychotic (not that I’m judging… heh). There have been many great examples of wo/man in the past and present who we can benefit from in examples of helping our fellow mankind/planet when you’re unsure how to help and yet you feel the desire to.
You don’t need conjure up a religion that can spark debate and separate your fellow man based on a myth, lore, even if the man existed. You take old text and cling to it for thousands of years that was written before they understood the concepts of the solar system and how the world works and take everything to heart. You don’t put a ‘supposed’ being before self, family and those in your current world.
There is no way to prove or disprove it. Reading silly text that is outdated and far better writings and examples of greatness have outshined their glorified teacher who if he did exist would say, “What the F***???!!!!” and wonder why these nut jobs* were obsessing over him the way they are and possibly laugh at their screwed up translations. “OMG my mother wasn’t a virgin… (laugh) it simply meant young.” Not to mention their concept of time was a little off as was their ability to tell whether or not someone was truly dead, in a coma or just listless.
*no offense to the nut jobs.
“But praise Jesus!!! Oooh I pray to him through out the day because I don’t believe in action and consequence. I believe that if I keep a conversation going, things will always be perfect and if they aren’t, then it’s God’s doing. Oh forget that there are millions and millions of people who live wonderful lives also and they don’t pray to my deity and they put their life in their own hands. What do I have over on them? When I die I get to go to heaven!!!!”
I think if there is a God and a “devil out to snatch souls”- Satan created the Bible and Christianity along with other religions to trick the weak into being his eternal slaves. All you have to do is get on your knees like a coward and beg to be ‘saved’ “mua ha ha”. At least that’s what I would do if I were the all mighty evil one. Which is silly, and that’s why I don’t believe.
To quote popular culture, I believe Brad Pitt annouced he was like 20% Atheist and 80% Agnostic. I think I bounce between the two percentages and flip them around ever so often. Why? No clue. I am not a deist by any means.
Like Einstein wrote: “the word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honorable but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish.”
Can I be the bigger person and ever look past religion? I can and I have, and I will again- it’s just really difficult when it’s constantly thrown in my face. All of the other ‘greats’ have had their tolerant moments and moments of ‘enough!’. I think I’m at the summit of the latter.
You’re an interesting woman. You really are.
Consider yourself lucky that you don’t have to read a gigantic reply here.
You’ll just have to be satisfied with being told you’re interesting.
LOL eek! Why do I feel the need to cry, “I am not a monster!”
You are a monster. A very interesting one. There can be charming monsters as well as evil ones, you know.
Oh I see, you were doing a Charles Laughton there, weren’t you? It took a while to sink in. I guess Quasimodo was a reasonably good example of a charming monster.
Yeah
I think most of us have a little Quasi in them, that’s why the story holds through out the years.
This also brought up a flashback from the brief time when I was in therapy in ’93… another reasons why I hate photos of myself when out in public- “It’s my social self, it’s not who I really am. I’m awkward, out of place, and I don’t like to be reminded of that.” I see the monster who *is* very charming and sincere, but does not fit in.
You can fit in without pretending to be somebody else if you’re around the right people. Of course, whether it’s very easy or not to find those right people …. And then too, at some point you have to ask yourself whether you even care about fitting in or not. Is it really worth the effort?
Quasi illustrates the flaw in not caring, though. At some point you look down from the tower and see Esmerelda down there … at which point you realize you really do want to fit in — to Esmerelda’s world at least — but it’s too late to start. Fortunately, after a while Esmerelda goes away to wherever Esmereldas go when you’re not paying attention, and you can just go back to hiding in the tower.
I was googling to find out how to prove that I am a U.S. citizen — if the issue ever came up, which is unlikely since I don’t think anyone would ever doubt it — and came across this: http://www.williamkwolfrum.com/2009/02/17/conservatives-must-all-work-tirelessly-to-prove-barack-obama-is-not-a-us-citizen/. I thought it might give you a chuckle.
OMG… I had joked in the past about becoming president of the U.S… screw it!
It’s not like we’re under the thumbs of some malicious dictator who wishes to lock us behind giant fences and shoot us down should we escape. WTF is wrong with these people???!?!?!??!!??!?!?!?!?!!??!?!
I feel for anyone who wants to lead and help them.
Great link btw lol
And if people had doubted that W was a citizen? …
They’d be seen as a crazy pot smoking hippies.
I just keep seeing that woman standing up in the crowd waving her birth certificate- is it wrong that I want to punch her in the head (Jonathon had me watch watch Rocky I-V… I might be influenced right now)
Oh whoa! I just saw that post/link was from February! I didn’t blink and miss it- apparently I was in a coma!
Sure they’d be seen as crazy … but only because W is white. It doesn’t alter the principle that he may not be able to prove who he is any more easily than Obama can.
It reminds me a little of the time I went in to take the Texas driver’s test, because I needed to change from having an Ohio driver’s license to a Texas license. When I took my paper up to the counter for the lady to grade it, I expressed my hope that I had done all right. With her gaze she scanned the room (which was full of hispanics taking the test) and said, “Oh, you’ll do all right!” Then she started grading the test, and every answer was wrong! She got more and more flustered as she realized that she had just promised the dumbest applicant in history that he was going to pass the test … then suddenly realized that she was holding the answer key next to the wrong column. Relief! All was well, I passed, and the honor of the white people was upheld once again.
Did she have a bouffant hairdo? I’m picturing her with a bouffant hairdo an horn rimmed glasses.
I can’t stand people like that. I don’t know what I’d do if someone treated me that way (I don’t think I’ve ever had a ‘white’ experience) but if I did LMAO yours sounds like the perfect one.
It was too long ago to remember details. Be my guest and picture it however you like. You might want to add a huge, hairy mole and a shrieking high-pitched cackle.
It seemed very unfair to me at the time, even though I was relieved to be the beneficiary. And I can imagine more innocent explanations that don’t involve bigotry … but where’s the fun in that?
okay, one more (2nd) post today. At this time, Lou Dobbs has already been released from CNN, as i understand it.
But c’mon. It’s amazing that anyone from either party would want to try to clean up the Bush/Cheney mess. Had McCain been elected, what do the Swift-Boat-Veterans-for-Truth and their descendants really think that McCain could have pulled out of HIS @$$ at this point? Start a 3rd front on the war on… on…um… on… um… ?terrorisim? or … ?un-Americanism?
They have the afternoon CNN on in the lunchroom where i work … not my job, i don’t HAVE a job, i have a temp assignment. Besides the point. But they replay voice mails from viewers of CNN in that time slot. There’s almost always someone (different someones every day) with the same comment: “President Obama must listen to his generals on the ground in Afghanistan. He must send the troops that his generals on the ground are asking for.” Why the same cookie-cutter viewer voice mails every day? See… Sometimes you’ll overhear a *wonderful* piece of statistic or what-have-you from a knee-jerk conservative inflicted upon some poor soul who doesn’t give a rat’s @$$ about politics. The statistic or *insight* is just too pat, just too pristine to have been discovered by the knee-jerk conservative himself. And then you know. This morning, the knee-jerk conservative listened to an A.M. radio talk show (you know the one) and received his marching orders for the day. He was told which factoid (?) to pass on to every person he met today.
If you’re so in love with “Liberty” and “Freedoms”, why would you let R*sh L*mbaugh do all your thinking for you? Yes, participating in democracy is hard work. Yes, it’s hard digesting all the facts and statistics and circumstances today and forming your own world view like a big boy. But, be a man about it and say “i like freedom but that’s a lot of work. What i like even better than freedom is parroting everything the morning radio talking heads order me to say”. It’s America. You’re free to hand over your brain to whomever you like. But be fair about it, and admit where your *insight* is coming from.
Sorry, that went longer than i thought it would.
