Why be in this mundane world when the surreal world in my head is so much more inviting, exciting, and not as complex?

Moon Landing, Did it Really Happen?

As you can tell I’m trying a new thing for blogging while I’ve been busy with quite a few things off/online and well… I like to read opinions other than my own.

I used to get sick of hearing about the ‘hoax’- but as we hit the 40th anniversary, I think it’s appropriate. Happy 40th! I wish I could have witnessed this great event and I could only imagine what it must have felt like to be glued to the television for something great. I felt that when I watched Obama get sworn in, and I can’t recall another moment off the top of my head (my coffee is still cooling).

My take on the moon landing- I’d like to believe it took place (obviously). Simply for the fact that it has sparked and inspired so many of us to reach outside of our exosphere for reaching and creating our dreams, showing further interest in life outside of our Planet and realizing what man is capable of doing.

Where do you stand?

The Moon Landing Hoax Conspiracy

The moon landing hoax controversy is still evident after 36 years. On July 20th, 1969 our lives changed forever. This was not due to any disastrous event that took place here on Earth, but an amazing event that took place in the heavens, when the first man walked on that wondrous thing people had gazed at and wondered about for centuries – the moon. Our world was changing at that time in leaps and bounds. It was a time of endless possibilities. Many people think of this as a moon landing hoax or the first man on the moon hoax. In spite of all the evidence to the contrary, some people still believe that the landing of a man on the moon was a trick of television.Shadows on the Moon

One of the arguments from skeptics to substantiate the moon landing hoax theory involves the shadows that illuminated from the lunar surface when the pictures that were sent back to us. They argue that if this is not a hoax, why is it that facts about the moon state there are no shadows in space. This argument about this moon landing hoax comes from believers that feel the sun is the only source of light in the universe. When you think of the moon, you must consider that the sun is not the only source of light on the moon and that the lunar surface reflects its own light which illuminates all things on the surface. Therefore there is no credence in the theory of a moon landing hoax.

The Fluttering Flag

Another part of the moon landing hoax theory deals with the American flag. The picture that was sent back showed this flag fluttering as in a wind. Some believers in the moon landing hoax feel that this was proof that this picture had been taken on earth and not the result of a moon landing. The fact that the flag flutters in the wind when there is no wind on the moon could lend some degree of credibility to the belief that this was a hoax. However, experts, in an attempt to defend the landing against the moon landing hoax theory explained that a vacuum has no friction. On the moon things don’t stop moving as quickly as they do on Earth, so when the astronauts got the flag attached to the surface and straightened, it stayed there longer than what we are accustomed to. Hence the picture was taken with the flag waving is proof that the moon landing hoax theory is incorrect.

Driving the Rover

The pictures of the astronauts driving the Rover also proved to many that this was a moon landing hoax However, the projection of the speed of a film showing the astronauts driving in the moon proves that it really did happen. There were no clouds of dust rinsing from the tires of the Rover because moon dust returns directly to the surface. Therefore it was not possible back in 1969 to have this type of controlled environment in which to display a moon landing hoax.

I’m all for skepticism, but the “we never landed on the moon” people are like the “the holocaust never happened, the jews made it all up” people. I wonder how much overlap there is with those people and the “i was kidnapped and violated by aliens” people. :)

But aren’t those people the minority? Just looking at the Apollo 11 footage, the number of skeptics was overwhelming. I do realize that this can easily tie into my discussion on religion and believers/non-believers, but we won’t go there ;)

I think that the “holocaust never happened” crowd has thinned out as they died off.. most of us were alive for the moon landing, however; many people are simply too stupid to grasp the concepts necessary to put a man safely on the moon, so immediately started trying to manufacture evidence that it never happened — if it never happened, then they’re not stupid for not being able to understand it. If one looks closely enough at anything one does not agree with, one can come up with tons of imaginary reasons why it’s “obviously not true”. It’s hard for me to come up with examples that do not involve religion here because the ones that fervently debunk all this stuff are the ones who live their lives based on faith. These sort of people also believed the world was flat at one point, because it LOOKS flat from most vantage points, and they were unable to fathom that it may in fact not be a pancake of dirt and crud perched on the back of a giant turtle. :)

The problem right now with maintaining that it was a hoax is that 200,000-400,000 people (estimates vary) were involved in some way in the program, and half of them are still alive. I’ve encountered many people who were personally involved. It will probably become easier to maintain that it was a hoax in 50 years, when all of them have passed on.

The Earth *is* flat… at least it looks like it from my back porch and there’s also a huge grey wall that prevents me from falling off!

I logged onto Twitter and I additionally like what Eddie Izzard wrote:
eddieizzard: Russia had the first man in Space, America the first man on the moon. Due to rivalry, Russia would obviously have exposed any fake landing.

  6. the scott says:

Ooh, so it’s the commies that are trying to claim the moon landing was a hoax. I get it now! ;)

And yes, the world is flat, at least until you get over to the coast and you can see that it isn’t.. maybe you need to get to the beach… :D

  7. Dawn Masuoka says:

I know I need to get to the beach. The last time I was there was the summer of ‘04. When J gets his SSI insurance, I’m hoping they’ll help with the all terrain chair so I can take him to the coast… or at least use respite so I can go alone (it’s not that far from here!). Until then, I maintain the Earth is flat.

And no… he was stating that if it WAS a hoax, they would have exposed it eons ago… which they did not.
