Memorial Day Weekend *test* Podcast

I'm not sure if it's the browser but it does sound like various things speed up/skip during play back. ALSO- I am testing out my new mic.

I will be doing a part two momentarily.

I don’t know what the deal is with the hipcast links, but the hipcast widgets don’t even show up in my browser. Actually, they show up in my browser at the office, but they’re all just missing in my browser at home. Alas! since I don’t play audio other than background music at the office, I’m pretty much out of luck as far as listening to whatever it is you might be saying. (Both of the browsers are Firefox.)

  2. Dawn says:

Really?!?!?!??! Grrr @ them! What browser are you running? I’ll have to look into it at Hipcast to find out what the issue might be.

Maybe I can do transcripts to the awesomeness that is the podcast (sooo not awesome… but I want to branch out to prep for when I write old time radio shows or make webcasts)

Here’s a synopsis if I can remember… I think I talked about going to the library, how the past years shows SUCKED and I’m not looking forward to more of the sucking… I threw in a joke from one of the library books and that might have been it lol

It’s weird… here at work where normally nothing shows up on my site- it’s showing for me.

My browser is Firefox. It’s not as if I can’t fire up a Windows or Mac box and use IE or Safari instead, it’s just that those computers aren’t normally turned on except for very specific purposes, and looking at your blog isn’t one of those purposes. :-)

  4. Dawn says:

Hmm- I don’t have Firefox here, I’ll check it out when I get home… I believed it worked there. But I did put the MP3 file link on the re-post. Not sure if that helps.

    And ouch!

  5. Ron Burkey says:

I get the impression your “ouch!” was for the Mac/Windows thing. I’m not sure what you thought I might have meant that was ouchable. I usually only turn the Mac/Windows boxes on for software testing, and I generally wouldn’t be reading your blog while doing software testing.

  6. Dawn says:

I was just teasing about being wounded that firing up machines isn’t for the sole purpose of reading my blog.

  7. Dawn says:

Hmm- must be your os? I just installed Firefox and everything shows fine.

  8. Ron Burkey says:

Well, both the Firefox that shows your links and the one that doesn’t are Linux. But don’t worry about it.

  9. Dawn says:

k- I haven’t really had any feed back one way or the other anyway on this new experimental thing. I personally don’t listen to audio-blogs/podcasts, but it seems the world does… I guess lol I don’t personally know anyone who does.

I think it’s mainly me listening to all these old shows that has me wanting the mic- but standalone I suck! I need someone to bounce off of/interact with- and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to do a podcast! What topics??? How long??? etc. I’m stuck! I’d scrap it but I just paid for Hipcast and bought a mic- and now I’m bent on doing “something” with it.

    Suggestions? And transcript it?

  10. Ron Burkey says:

I don’t see how you could make transcripts. That would get very old (for you) very fast. I know somebody must be listening, because I saw a comment the other day from somebody who said they were, so you probably just shouldn’t worry too much weirdos (like me) who insist on using oddball computer platforms.

Supposing that you’re right that you need a partner or at least a guest for your podcasts, I think you can get most of your answers by working backwards. The key questions to ask are who do you have available who would like to participate, and what are their interests in common with yours? The interests you have in common are the topics you need to discuss. My guess is that those topics would be gaming, movies, and graphic novels.

I’d volunteer, except that I doubt I’d be interesting and that (at the moment) I have less than zero spare time. (Not to mention my oddball computer platform!)

  11. Dawn says:

    You and your oddball platform.

I think my brother would be perfect, but I don’t know how to do long distance interactions. He’s straight man I’m oddball. Other people I’ve asked where it’s always a comedic interaction… impossible to find time, and it’s the location as well.

Then again, if I could write a successful monologue- maybe I don’t need to worry about it! I should have put more thought into it before plunging.

Yeah, transcripts would be tiresome. I can do a bullets of the topics, that way someone would know ahead of time if they wish to download the MP3 or press play.

I’ll figure out some way of adding another dimension of myself! It’s the font that is misread a lot of times, or the tone is… when I get home I’ll probably look up ideas on how to do this. I talk to myself in my head all the time and in font, can’t be too hard to move it from my fingers to my voice.

  12. Ron Burkey says:

It hadn’t occurred to me that you couldn’t do it long-distance. Why couldn’t you set up a Skype call? It costs zero. The remote person’s voice would sound a little weird when recorded through the mic, probably, but it seems as though it would still work.

  13. Ron Burkey says:

On the other hand, maybe not, since Skype and hipcast would have to share a mic. Of course, even a regular phone call would work if your phone has a speakerphone feature. My super-cheap phone does.

  14. Dawn says:

Not a bad idea, I signed up for a skype account previously- but never used it… same issue, free time always conflicts with people. Good idea though SHOULD I find someone who could interact regularly.

I might be able to record the phone call some how from Skype and then upload it through hipcast. I only have a cell phone for speaker… sound quality REALLY sucks!

Time to get creative! Heh… maybe if I ever figure out how to edit… I can just edit myself into old shows? Bantering with George Burns from beyond the grave! (his, not mine)

  15. Ron Burkey says:

Actually, I was going to suggest something like that but I didn’t think you’d like the idea. Now I’m bummed that I don’t get credit for it. Sheesh!

The way I was thinking of it working is that you’d read both dialog parts, but you’d substitute your own comments for one of the parts (Gracie in this case).

Kind of the Mystery Science Theater version of an old radio show.

  16. Dawn says:

My voice for both sides? Like character work for the one who *isn’t* me? And then my OWN words for the one that *is* me?

I’ll give you credit for it lol maybe I read your mind by accident.

  17. Ron Burkey says:

You’d have to practice sounding like George Burns, of course, and that might not be so easy.

  18. Dawn says:

Well I’d sound like him in my head!!!

I just looked up My Friend Irma http://www.genericradio.com/show.php?id=D5BFCGHI8 <- could possibly work, but there are SO many characters in that program. Then again, I can still be creative and not use all of it, or figure it out.

  19. Dawn says:

Hmm- well maybe that script isn’t great because it’s more of a story… I am so confused! I have jury duty tomorrow, maybe I can think of stuff whilst waiting.

I’ve just gotten home, and (surprise!) the hipcast links are there now. How weird.

I enjoyed listening. Plus, now I know how to say “Masuoka”.
