6 Months of No Smoking!

YAY! I’m writing this rather quickly because I am in the middle of my work day, but it triggered my memory when I was downstairs getting my blood pressure checked- I quit smoking 6 months ago!

:-) How did I celebrate? I’ve decided to join a volunteer center in my community to help where I can locally and via online. Right now I’m going to do work as a resource researcher for MS. I got a little of my life back- I’d like to do something productive with it.

My mind is boggling. I think there must be more hours in a day up there than down here.

How many hours a night do you sleep?

  2. Dawn Masuoka says:

5.5 – 6 hrs of sleep. I get up at 5:30, so if I try to go to bed at like 10:30, my eyes pop open over an hour before I’m supposed to get up and it feels like torture.
I figure after I put Jonathon to bed, I have a few hours of awake time where I could be doing something of use.

I was prepared to marvel, but that’s about the same schedule I have. … Though now that I think of it, it still seems pretty marvelous, since I don’t have your responsibilities and still wouldn’t think of myself as having any time to spare. I’m probably just too lazy.

    What is “resource researching?”

No, wait, never mind. I feel guilty for trying to swipe some of your limited time to answer silly questions. I think I see what it must be. :-)

Pretty much it’ll be looking up resources for MS- the information that people go to the site for… someone has to find it! I’m not quite sure all it entails but I’ll find out tomorrow.

Lonely evenings tend to get depressing now and then, so I figure… instead feeling a little down, I can use my lonely nights for good! I’ve always loved doing charity and volunteer work, but Jonathon doesn’t’ always like coming along for the ride. This way I can quietly do stuff without disrupting his time until he wants to join.

  5. Ron Burkey says:

I hadn’t thought of it quite that way, but I guess I do something similar with my “lonely nights” in that I run some open-source software projects. It’s a public service, even if it doesn’t have the same potential impact on anyone’s life-quality as what you’ve signed up for. Yay!

  6. Dawn Masuoka says:

In a way it does… lol I guess it depends on what the open sourced software is!

Yay to us and making a difference.

    Cheers! =^_^=

  7. Ron Burkey says:

And you call yourself a ghic! I insist you look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_software. Immediately!! :-)

  8. Dawn Masuoka says:

I didn’t ask what open software WAS- I asked what you did.

  9. Ron Burkey says:

Oh, then you are fine ghic. My faith is restored. If you click the link above (where it says “9. Ron Burkey says”) it goes to my website.

  10. Dawn Masuoka says:

I’ll now have to do that when I get home… lol I’m now wounded you questioned my ghic-iness.

  11. Ron Burkey says:

It was a traumatic experience for me too. I’m going to start learning to read … real soon now!

  12. Dawn Masuoka says:

    It’s not there!

  13. Ron Burkey says:

That’s odd. It works for me. Anyhow, the URL is http://www.sandroid.org. I notice that a lot of the project descriptions there look pretty much like technospeak gobbledygook, so I’ll help you out a little by telling you that the project there that’s of the most popular appeal — if “appeal” isn’t too strong a word! — is the one called “GutenMark”.

  14. Dawn Masuoka says:

Of course the link worked for Wiki but you weren’t listed.

  15. Ron Burkey says:

Ha! That’s funny. I’m flattered that you left off your emoticons and still expected me to know that you were joking.

I’d certainly be surprised if I was listed. I’ve noticed in the past that there are some articles in wikipedia that mention me and/or some of my projects down in the small print, but that’s the closest to fame I expect I’ll ever get. :-)

  16. Ron Burkey says:

Oh, I see what you might have meant. If you’re saying that “GutenMark” isn’t listed in wiki, I didn’t intend to imply that it was. I meant that of the projects listed at *my* website, http://www.sandroid.org, it’s the one that’s most accessible without a lot of effort.

I was referring to the instructions you wrote “If you click the link above (where it says “9. Ron Burkey says”) it goes to my website.”

Now I see you were talking about MY sites comment section. Sorry, I was looking on Wiki because I thought you were still talking about the other site. I had already know THAT. ;-)

  18. Ron Burkey says:

I see. But it makes my head spin. It’s a good thing I’m at work, where there’s no particular negative impact from being in a confused mental state.

  19. Dawn Masuoka says:

    I’ll make it easier ;)

^I thought you were instructing to go to the wiki site because the URL was posted above it and to look for #9 (which most Wiki entries have those- and look for your name). Pretty simple and no biggy. The posted URL threw me off. I’ll go through it this weekend.

    Happy Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Ron Burkey says:

Only a ghic would think that adding more words makes anything clearer. You will clearly see this if you do reach my site. :-) Happy Friday, fine ghic.

  21. Dawn Masuoka says:

:-) Just staying true to my ghiccyness.

  22. Ron Burkey says:

I’m not sure why, but that sounds like something that should be chocolate covered and have a creamy center.
