Will I Watch It? New DVD Releases for December 2nd

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (PG) 12/02/08
The Pevensie siblings return to Narnia, where they are enlisted to once again help ward off an evil king and restore the rightful heir to the land’s throne, Prince Caspian. Based on the book by C.S. Lewis.

Starring: Peter Dinklage, Anna Popplewell
Director: Andrew Adamson

Country: United Kingdom, USA

Rated PG for epic battle action and violence.

Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Action, Family (144 Minutes)

Will I watch it? I read the book when I was younger and I believe I enjoyed them… but my exposure to literature was so limited at that age. I had gone from Cat in the Hat to Little House… to CS Lewis Books and then climbed up from there. I haven’t revisited the series since having decades of book clubs and library cards assisting in my page turning quests and I have no strong desire to go back. The books had no special place in that area where my heart is supposed to be which indicates that a sentimental visit is not going to take place… but I know me very well and I’ll probably see this while visiting family and it just ‘happens’ to be on.

The Longshots (PG) 12/02/08

The true story of Jasmine Plummer who, at the age of 11, became the first female to play in Pop Warner football tournament in its 56-year history.

Starring: Ice Cube, Keke Palmer
Director: Fred Durst

Rated PG for some thematic elements, mild language, and brief rude humor.

Will I watch it? More than likely. Earlier in the year I did see the previews and after seeing the decline in female students in the computer fields across country, more and more girls opting for reality tv where they can show how trampy they can be whilst talking at record speeds breaking glass with their increasingly high pitched voices… it was nice to see an inspiring film that comes out showing girls you don’t have to be a walking pair of implants and blings and make it to trophy wife in life- you can actually have PURPOSE and depth and all that other crap that matters when you’re 37 and a divorcee.

I hate sports, but this is one of those films for all people who hate sports but they try to convert the sports haters by throwing at us films about heart… and sports. It never works because it’s a lot like trying to get a vegetarian to eat meat by showing them films like Babe and Lion King… I don’t know where the connection is in that but it sounded good in my head.

Rated R for strong bloody/brutal violence, torture and language throughout, drug use, sexuality, and some graphic nudity.

Drama, Foreign (119 Minutes)

Will I watch it? I have a very pained look on my face right while I’m thinking about it… yeahhhhhh I think I will probably see it. Hooligan, gang leader… UK… Yeah…. I’ll see it.

Step Brothers (R) 12/02/08
Two spoiled guys become competitive stepbrothers after their single parents get hitched.

Starring: Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly
Director: Adam McKay

Rated R for crude and sexual content, and pervasive language.

Comedy (95 Minutes)

Will I watch it? Definitely. I know it’s one of those films that has a lot of vulgarity and swearing in it, probably quite slap stick… but I heard good things. I’m a sheep sometimes when it comes to comedy (I never know what to rent in that genre- I have such a dark, witty, dry, clever and FAB sense of humor, but it’s hard to satiate me.) Comedies are hit or misses and I don’t mind risking it with this one.
——————————————————————————–

The Trojan Horse (R) 12/02/08
When Canada dissolves its sovereignty and merges with the United States, disgruntled former Prime Minister Tom McLaughlin schemes to subvert American politics from the inside out by running as the next presidential candidate. But first he’ll have to deal with the ruthless incumbent President Stanfield and a pesky British journalist that is on to his game.

Starring: Tom Skerritt, Greta Scacchi
Director: Charles Biname  Country: Canada

Rated R for some violence and language.

Suspense, Drama (180 Minutes)

Will I watch it? I have never heard of this one. Hmmm… I think I shall see it! YES! Why yes I will view this movie! Will I see it this week or next week… nah, probably not. If anyone views this before I do, let me know if it’s a rental or not. I don’t want another M. Night fiasco.
——————————————————————————–Wanted (R) 12/02/08 12/02/08
A young man finds out his long-lost father is an assassin. And when his father is murdered, the son is recruited into his father’s old organization.

Starring: James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman
Director: Timur Bekmambetov

Rated R for strong bloody violence throughout, pervasive language and some sexuality.

Drama, Thriller, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Action (110 Minutes)

Will I watch it? I have seen this because Timur Bekmambetov spoke in front of panel at Comic-Con in NYC- the 10+ minute preview was AWESOME. He had us drooling for more and I was excitedly awaiting to view this on the big screen. After watching it I can say that I had already seen the best parts. The plot became dizzying in the end while at the same time being almost annoying predictable. I won’t see the film in its entirety again, but I do watch to watch those first 10-20 minutes.

——————————————————————————–Wisegal (NR) 12/02/08
A widowed mother of three takes a page from the neighborhood Mafioso and turns to selling contraband cigarettes to support her family. A local mobster recognizes her business savvy and gives her a nightclub to manage. Before long, she gets promoted even higher up in the ranks.

Starring: Alyssa Milano, Jason Gedrick
Director: Jerry Ciccoritti
Will I watch it? I think I’ll pass on this although I had been wanting to find out what ever happened to Jason Gedrick.
——————————————————————————–

The X-Files: I Want to Believe (PG-13) 12/02/08 12/02/08
Mulder continues his unshakable quest for the truth, and Scully, the passionate, ferociously intelligent physician, remains inextricably tied to Mulder’s pursuits.

Starring: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson
Director: Chris Carter

Rated PG-13 for violent and disturbing content, and thematic material.
Mystery, Sci-Fi/Fantasy (105 Minutes)

Will I watch it? It looks stupid, I heard bad reviews- yeah I’m going to rent the damn thing. I promise not to bitch about it though… for more than 30 seconds. Well come on, it’s the X-Files. I had a love hate relationship with it and sat through the WORST ending EVER of a television series.

Beauty Best Bets and Beasts

Oil of Olay Foundation- :-\

On the off chance that I have make-up buyers in the reader base, I have to give my opinion of Cover Girl. Honestly I can’t stand the stuff and the last time I had actually tried it was back in high school at a friends house when I ran out of whatever I was using by Avon.

I dislike the smell and feel of the liquid foundation and in addition to that rancid medicine smell and greasy feel, it would cause my skin to breakout.

A bazillion commercials later with dozens of reputable spokes models, I had hoped the product line had evolved despite never planning to find out first hand.

I was at Walgreens Saturday afternoon on my way back from a movie and popped in for some really good reason that has slipped my mind… but I KNOW it was a very important (I think I wanted to see if they had anything to munch on for later in the evening). VERY important stuff! While I was rushing past the make-up aisles I was stopped dead in my track by sale on foundation “Oil of Olay” $5.38. I thought, “I didn’t know they now do foundation.” Because of my insecurities that stem from being single for so long and climbing the age ladder; I figured it wouldn’t hurt.

For those sharp minded people- you’ve probably guessed the Cover Girl is behind the Oil of Olay product. After putting some one and crinkling my nose at the faint hint of rancid medicine… and greasy feel… I examined the bottle more closely and saw the signature “CG”. Lovely.

Currently I’m sitting at work with a smelly, greasy face hoping to go home soon so I can wash it off.

I’ve no idea why CG has been popular for so long. Maybeline. L’oreal and Revlon have comparable prices, better products I’ve never had a complaint with anything I’ve ever tried. CG, after (cough cough) years- is still is crap.

I had actually tried to take a pic of myself with the cell phone to show how bad it was… but the image made me sob uncontrollably. You’d think the shine would make you look younger, but no… not in this situation.

Charles Worthington London:
Results

Moisture Seal Conditioner. I’ve only used this product once so far and in that one time I can say I was impressed by the texture, weight and results of the product. I have an extremely sensitive scalp and so far I’m not running around screaming “IT BURNS IT BURNS” like I’m prone to do with other products. As of this moment it, like its leave-in conditioner counter part, is remaining a staple on my ever expanding hair product shelf… but this product will be used until it’s gone unlike many of the other products I buy and wind up too lazy to toss out and too kind to give it away.

I found this at Walgreens on sale for $3.50 each from the normal low price of $5.99 each.

Jane Be Pure Mineral Stack

Mineral make-up, the fad that doesn’t seem to be fading is now in stackable form. For $9.99 I picked up this bargain of Lip gloss (four shades), 4 shades of eye shadow, Blush/highlighter, face powder and bronzer.

Because this is a promotional and not something that will stay around long- I’ve only found this in warm and cool. My only gripe is that the face powder is a little too dark for my complexion. Other than that ONE complaint, I find it to be a great bargain for decent make up that lasts through my work day and still allows my skin to breathe.
