Bolt- I didn’t feel like doing that from the theater!

Yahoo Synopsis: For super-dog Bolt, every day is filled with adventure, danger and intrigue – at least until the cameras stop rolling. When the canine star of a hit TV show is accidentally shipped from his Hollywood soundstage to New York City, he begins his biggest adventure yet – a cross-country journey through the real world. Armed only with the delusions that all his amazing feats and powers are real, and with the help of two unlikely traveling companions – a jaded, abandoned housecat named Mittens and TV-obsessed hamster in a plastic ball named Rhino – Bolt discovers he doesn’t need superpowers to be a hero.

Genres: Action/Adventure, Comedy and Animation
Running Time: 1 hr. 36 min.
MPAA Rating: PG for some mild action and peril.
Starring: John Travolta, Susie Essman, Miley Cyrus, Mark Walton, Malcolm McDowell Directed by: Chris Williams, Byron Howard
Produced by: John Lasseter, Clark Spencer, Lisa M. Poole

The synopsis really covers it all. I actually enjoyed myself through the entire film (even one part where Mittens sounded an awful lot like she was telling Jesse’s Toy Story 2 backstory- but with minor differences). I started to think “Oh wonderful, Disney really does hate women. It took decades before they allowed the characters to have mothers and now they’re giving all the girls abandonment issues.” Thankfully the film pulled me out of my negative mindframe and threw me back into a needed light hearted comedy/action adventure that caters to ALL people.

All People Check-list:
Dog Lovers… Check
Cat Lovers… Check
Hamster Lovers… Check
East Coast Love… Check
West Coast Love… Check
Mid-West Love- Check
Martial Arts… Explosions… High Tech Gadgets… Waffles… Pigeons: check check check check and check
I think even some of it is vegetarian friendly!

The list can go on and on, but won’t because I did a redbox rental with a promo code and if I don’t view it tonight and return it tomorrow it won’t be free.

My take on Bolt. I liked it. I really liked it and I’m a hard sell on just about everything. This sayer did not say nay! Disney is usually pretty good at churning out ‘kid movies’ that people of all ages can and usually do enjoy and the tradition continues with this one.

Web of Shadows: Amazing Allies Edition (PS2 Only)

Pay attention to that- ‘AMAZING ALLIES EDITION’ and notice that it’s not on the covers of the other platforms boxes. If you’re expecting the same game that was released on PS3 and Xbox360 you will be very disappointed like I was.

Unlike the other platforms, this 40 dollar game takes you old school. Really old school, think 2D side scroller old school.

Are the consumers aware this what they’re getting for their buck? Not at all. If you check it out on Amazon, you’re given the same specs as the PS3. If you go to the store and turn over the box… you’re given:
-An ‘Everyone’ Rating (which I wish I paid attention to- much like the Allies Edition) I had no clue that I had to pay attention to the differences.
-A unique adventure developed for the Playstation 2 Computer Entertainment System! Who knew you had to read between the lines and guess based on absolutely

“How far will you go to save New York” – Obviously as far as the side scrolling game play will allow. If this were a bonus game within a game then I could see the fun and appeal. There is interesting dialogue and you gain points and reputations for the choices you make (red suit vs. black suit decisions) because the symbiote that you’re infected with can cause your judgment to be clouded or impaired. I don’t *hate* it because it does have its moments (if the buyers were aware), but for the price tag, I despise the people behind it.

For shelling out 40 dollars on a game that was created for a platform that doesn’t allow trades for the PS2 any more- you’re pretty much screwed.

Thank you Activision. The next time you pull something like this you’d better toss in a free movie pass like you did with Spider-Man 3 or a coupon for a free meal so it doesn’t feel quite so much like dropping a bar of soap in a prison shower.

It’s not that the PS2 can’t handle the game- even the original PSX had more advanced play than this p.o.c.

Activision remains on my bad list. Ultimately is it the creators (Marvel) or the developers who decides which fans they piss off? I’ll see this as a joint effort and quietly vent my annoyances here while Jonathon loves the game for the character, not choppy, flawed and frustrating game play.

I think this is the last game I’ll review until I get a better gaming system, one that developers aren’t always flipping off, throwing feces at and back tracking on the game play to 10-20 year old engines. I take that back… I’ve no idea what they’re doing with Tomb Raider- the PS2 version has been held off for release for another two months, I’m only hoping it’s for a good reason.

Zombies: Just Add Water

The holiday season always brings to mind ‘zombies’. Perhaps the Black Friday mob mentality where people regress into a less than primal state where they shell out hard earned money and risk future debt… life and limb for items that more than likely won’t better anyone’s life and 9 out ten times will wind up broken and or forgotten about in under 30 days. Yes, the mindless consumers out there who blend into the sea of the conglomerate herd and… I’m going to hop off my little soap box right now and get to the point. (save your economy talk for later, I don’t wanna hear it).

Zombies. Not Rob et al, but the other flesh eating type (note- Rob Zombie eating flesh is merely speculation and holds no truth that I’m aware of. I’ve never seen him eat flesh nor heard about him eating flesh in real life. Please do not sue me, I’m completely broke so after you hire lawyers and they track me down, drag me into court and you deal with all the bad publicity of trying to get money from a poor single mother who has two cats… yeah… TWO of them… with identity crisis’ and massively shedding hair… you would have really wasted your time and probably mine, although I could use the publicity so I can buy the shedding haired cat some rogain.)

So yes I am referring to the non-Rob zombies that a handful of awesome and a ton of horrible books and films are based on.

I have to be honest when I say that I haven’t seen every zombie film on the planet so there’s a very real chance that my ideas are already immortalized in book or film. Here it goes anyway;if there were a zombie outbreak, couldn’t a small community of people just board a cruise ship, or any ship, yacht, or decent sized water craft and be okay? I don’t believe zombies know how to swim, although I guess they don’t need to worry about air… they could probably just float.

Has there ever been a zombies out to sea type of flick? Zombies: The new oceanic threat. How freaking awesome would that be? It’d be like Waterworld but with a decent plot, script and acting.

How *would* you survive a zombie uprising out at sea? Think about it- people escape to the sea thinking it’s much more safe than being on land, forgetting about how zombies can actually make it out there… So you’re on a cruise ship with the population the size of a small city and you’re dealing with modern pirates out on the waters searching for food and medicine… and then ZOMBIES! Throw in the natural sea life that can totally kick your ass and you’ve got the tackiest, yet scariest film EVER! Maybe it can even be a love story. The hero winds up falling in love with the head zombie because she kind of has a thing for the whole bad boy image and FINALLY a man who likes her for her mind… heh, get it… he likes her for her brains? <- because zombies eat brains… okay, nevermind…

You have the whole film on some Titanic/Ghost Ship making due with the weapons on hand (flares, harpoons, etc). You feel you’re making some progress and then all of a sudden you witness a zombie gnawing on a shark or other sea creature… OOOH a dolphin who becomes infected! Your food source is now tainted, you’re running out weapon ideas and places to hide… Tell me oh readers… HOW do you get out of this one (throw in a scene of the hero on the sofa while the zombie sketches her Titanic (Cameron) style.

Yes my friends, I think this could very well be the zombie film of the new living impaired obsessed generation. The sequel: Zombies in Space (since not a whole lot of people are *in* space- the zombies terrorize a space shuttle crew in the first ten minutes and spend the next hour and twenty minutes floating through space until the credits role.) The space film will make 20 million its opening weekend because the water zombie flick was such a huge success. It will make an additional 40mm by the end of the run because people will purchase tickets to see if it’s really as bad as everyone is saying it is.

DVD Shelf or some other clever title I’m too tired to think of

24: Redemption (NR) 11/25/08 A television movie that bridges the gap between the 6th and 7th season of the series. 24 is perhaps my biggest self kick in the pants. When this came out I was stoked. It was the first season and when it was on- I was there! Life revolved around it and then bring Season two into the picture. The first few episodes it was practically the same thing “YES! This is AWESOME!” and then a few events came up and I had to choose friends over the show (I was too dumb to record the episodes). By the time I was able to get back into it… well I figured I’d just wait until it came out on DVD.

Back then it took ages for a show to come out on DVD- so I never watched it past 2.2. I guess now I have an impressive marathon of 24 to pop in my DVD player… but not just now, not just yet. So no friends, I will not be renting this one, yet.

——————————————————————————–

Conjurer (NR) 11/25/08 A young couple becomes convinced that the cabin on their new country property is haunted when the spirit of the deceased sorceress who once lived there begins to manifest itself in a variety of deadly and terrifying ways.

Starring: Maxine Bahns, Andrew Bowen

More than likely I’ll watch this in secret and never tell anyone. You won’t be able to pull up the footage at the Redbox because I’ll be wearing a trench coat and sun glasses- along with a wig. I won’t tell you what color wig. I would have passed this film up completely because the cover reminds me of a The Crow sequel… and the synopsis is lame; but it received 3 stars by Hollywood Video standards and now I’m curious. And because the cover reminds me of a The Crow sequel.

Confliction

Yes I’ve written this a dozen times but I discovered something on Facebook that helps me further- Notes. I can do my personal blogging there and write like I used to… here. If I want to be a decent writer on the troll site and write *something*, I need to do away with random blogging on this site. My ‘idea’ is to primarily have what I write there… posted here and vice versa.

SO, for the readers who enjoy my ramblings and insights- please feel free to sign up at Facebook and add me. I’ve used my status message as my quick outlooks so it’s taken me away from updating here… and it’s replaced my e-mail needs.

I started off on the net as a non-blogger 10 years ago and I’d like to get back to that (considering I’m paying for it) and then choose to ramble about stuff on Facebook. I also feel like I’m missing out on Troll in the Corner. I was mentally prepared for it not to be public until January and now it’s already a permanent fixture.

A weekly column plus things of interest… and I can’t do that if I put my personal thoughts here. SOOOO please feel free to join my small network online of pre-existing friends, family and a few readers on Facebook *I refuse to join- rejoin MySpace*… and I’ll get my butt going on here with the writing for Troll in the Corner. Mmmmmmmmkay?

Dear Jane,
Are you sure this drawing of a spider is the one I sent you? This spider only has seven legs and I do not feel I would have made such an elementary mistake when I drew it.

Hello, I am back and have read through your emails and accept that despite missing a leg, that drawing of a spider may indeed be the one I sent you. I realise with hindsight that it is possible you rejected the drawing of a spider due to this obvious limb ommission but did not point it out in an effort to avoid hurting my feelings. As such, I am sending you a revised drawing with the correct number of legs as full payment for any amount outstanding. I trust this will bring the matter to a conclusion.

Regards, David.

I understand and will definately make a payment this week if I remember. As you have not accepted my second drawing as payment, please return the drawing to me as soon as possible. It was silly of me to assume I could provide you with something of completely no value whatsoever, waste your time and then attach such a large amount to it.

How life can change forever in an instant

It’s been a very long day while the news started to come in about Mary’s kids. The rescue mission was changed to a recovery mission and shortly after 1pm they found the eldest and then the little one. I don’t want to write currently because I just can’t right now. I’ll let people know whats going to be done for Mary and her family- I know a fund is being started but I’ve no information yet on how to contribute. I’ve been crying for Mary in complete sorrow and also crying for being so happy that I have my kids to love and cherish another day and hopefully for the rest of my life. No parent should ever have to outlive their children.

Prayers and strong thoughts are going out there to help her heal and move forward when the time is right- but for now my heart is reaching out to her while she just tries to breathe. May her and her family continue to be surrounded by love and kindess during this tough time.

Prayers and Thoughts Updated

It’s so hard to breathe or focus when you know a mother, a co-worker, a friend is out there hoping for good news that may or may not ever come. The search for the most part is being called off during the evening hours tonight and planning to resume in the morning.

While the authorities are focusing on the river, some of the family believes they were perhaps kidnapped and authorities are focusing in the wrong direction.

My thoughts earlier this morning was that perhaps the youngest did fall into the river and Alvin went in after him, maybe he got them to shore safely and they were keeping warm until someone found them. The closer the 24 hr mark came… and then went… so did the hope of that scenario.

When I saw her on the news tonight I just wanted to wrap my arms around her. She’s such a strong woman; she’s the type of person who is always there for someone when they’ve hit tragedy to make sure they get through it okay. My thoughts remain positive for the entire family, my heart bleeds for them and I will continue to bate my breath until we know what happened.

Search for missing brothers intensifies, focuses on river
05:38 PM PST on Monday, November 17, 2008
By kgw.com Staff

INDEPENDENCE, Ore. — A fourth boat, with divers and cameras on board, joined dogs, helicopters and volunteers Monday in the search for two brothers who have been missing for more than a day.
       KGW report on missing brothers
The two boys, 20-year-old Alvin Troub and his younger brother, Michael Runyon, an 8-year-old with autism, were last seen Sunday fishing on the Willamette River banks in Independence.

Mary Troub, the boys’ mother, said Michael cannot swim and was probably “very, very scared.”

Search crews are focusing on the river, but family members aren’t entirely convinced they fell in.

Authorities are focusing on the river, though, from the sky, ground and water.

”I feel like they’re out there. I feel like they’re alive,” Mary Troub told KGW. “They’re extremely close. Alvin’s like a role model to Michael. He loves him to death.”

Authorities found the boys’ fishing equipment yards away from the river, but no sign of them. The river was running very high, they said, and the boys could have fallen in.

”Our fear is that they’re in the water,” said Independence Police Department Chief Vernon Wells.

More than two dozen volunteers are searching the murky water and thick brush along the banks — but say the odds of finding the boys alive are dwindling by the hour.

”The assumption is they somehow got in the river and most of our search is concentrating on the river,” Wells said.

 Troub isn’t so sure.

”I’m kind of thinking at this point they were taken,” she said.

”We just can’t figure it out, [the boys' mom] was thinking someone may have taken the boys, but Alvin is such a big boy,” said their aunt, Laurie Runyon. “Alvin takes really good care of his fishing poles. I don’t know what’s going on.”

The boys’ pictures are plastered on flyers in store-front windows from Independence all the way to Monmouth.

Police reiterated they were working “every possible angle” in the case, including the possibility the boys may have been abducted.

At least one boat will resume searching for the boys Tuesday should darkness and weather conditions force a suspension of the hunt Monday night.

KGW Reporters Mike Benner and Erica Heartquist contributed to this report.
